Law Enforcement Symposium

We are pleased to present the Teen Center Annual Conference 2008: A Law Enforcement Symposium to be held on June 5, 2008. The development of a coordinated community response to teen dating violence is needed in every community and law enforcement is a key partner in providing an effective response. The 2008 Conference aims to provide innovative training, support critical dialogue, and explore best practices for law enforcement responding to teen dating violence. If you are a law enforcement official interested in improving your community's response, please join us for this unique opportunity to bring this important issue to a national forum.

Faculty

The 2008 Conference will be led by faculty with expertise in developing innovative responses to teen dating violence. In addition to faculty with a history of leadership in law enforcement, faculty members will also include representatives from the following organizations:

  • Break the Cycle
  • Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community
  • National Center for Victims of Crime
  • National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges
  • Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape

Agenda

Conference participants will explore four major themes through instruction, experiential learning, and discussion:

  • Developmentally appropriate investigative techniques
  • Collaboration with campus law enforcement officers
  • Stalking and harassment through technology
  • Assisting criminal prosecution of juvenile offenders

Faculty will utilize short presentations, small and large group activities, and facilitated discussion to explore cutting-edge issues in teen dating violence. All activities will culminate in practical strategies that can be implemented in local communities. Participants will also discuss best practices for law enforcement response to teen dating violence, which will be the subject of a national publication released by Teen Center in the fall of 2008.
